My first task was to make new icons for the options dialog box. The style was pretty straightforward, meant to look “at home” in Windows XP, Vista and 7. I wanted the icons to be sharp, easy to recognize and simple. There were some concepts that were not easy to represent (“miscellaneous”?), and some that were hard to do graphically (how to depict a toolbar in a 32×32 area?).
All the works was done in Adobe Fireworks, which is my tool of choice when creating icons. In it I can work with vector shapes and get pixel precision, and it is easy to scale icons to all needed sizes.
